INDHEAP Project Update: Construction Works Underway
May 14, 2026The INDHEAP project has reached an important step, with preparation works for the installation of the carport structure officially launched in March. This marks the transition from planning and design activities towards on-site implementation.
Site preparation activities
This initial phase, led by TotalEnergies, focuses on preparatory works required to ensure that the site can safely and effectively host the INDHEAP system. These activities represent a critical step in enabling the upcoming construction and integration phases. The main works currently being carried out include:
- Installation of an underground drainage network to manage rainwater, site drainage, and potential spills from solar panel operation
- Expansion of the parking area to achieve the surface required for the installation
- Construction of foundations for the carport structure
- Installation of an oil separator, ensuring proper handling of possible spills from the technical room and thermal storage systems
- Resurfacing of the parking road, improving accessibility and site conditions.
Ensuring safety and precision
The start of construction activities was preceded by a dedicated preparation phase, during which on-site activities were carefully defined and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) measures were established to mitigate identified risks. In parallel, site readiness actions ensured accuracy and safety, including precise marking of excavation areas and GPR-based identification of underground utilities to ensure a safe working environment and protect existing infrastructure.
Foundations are finished and 80% concreted, following adjustments made during a redesign phase to address unforeseen issues. Upcoming works include the installation of utility cable trenches and piping excavations starting in May. The phase will be completed with the final tarmac layer.
Next phase
Building on the progress achieved during the preparation phase, the project will soon move into the second stage of implementation, carried out within the framework of Work Package 5 (WP5). Key activities in this phase will include:
- Foundations for the technical room and thermal storage tank.
- Construction of the carport structure.
- Installation of drainage piping, connected to the underground network
This phase will bring the INDHEAP demonstrator closer to operational status, enabling the integration of innovative solutions for industrial solar heat and power generation.
Looking ahead
The ongoing construction works represent an important step forward for the INDHEAP project, demonstrating tangible progress towards the deployment of the system in a real industrial environment.
