NEWHEAT

Role in project

  • Propose flexible ST+PV Integration Concepts for Demo and Replication Cases.
  • Develop the thermal subsystems of the Digital twin of the Hybrid ST+PV DEMO system.
  • Develop advanced control strategies and Dynamic Optimization, considering weather and heat and power demand forecasting, until final integration of the controller within the INDHEAP demonstrator.
  • Conduct the preliminary studies to host the INDHEAP demonstrator: technical design studies, land securing and permitting.
  • Integrate subsystems to build the entire Demo Unit, thanks to a detailed dynamic model of the system to support commissioning and operation phase.
  • Participate to the Commissioning, Testing & Optimizing of the Demo Unit.
  • Propose innovative business models for hybrid ST-PV plants

Role in project

In IndHEAP, SINTEF Energy Research is the leading partner of WP1, aiming to contribute to increased resource efficiency and renewable energy integration in the demonstration and replication sites. In close collaboration with the partners in WP1, they will optimise the integration points and consumption schedule according to the generation of solar heat and electricity.

Furthermore, they aim to contribute with our knowledge and expertise on energy thermal systems to optimise the complete energy system that will be demonstrated in the project.

AEE — Institut für Nachhaltige Technologien

AEE – Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) was founded in 1988 and is today one of the leading European institutes for applied research in the field of renewable energy and resource efficiency. In the three target group areas ‘Buildings’, ‘Cities & Grids’ and ‘Industrial Systems’ as well as three technological working groups ‘Renewable Energies’, ‘Thermal Storage’ and ‘Water and Process Technologies’, the range of R&D projects carried out extends from basic research projects to the realisation of demonstration plants.

AEE INTEC currently employs around 85 people from eight different countries in Gleisdorf. With an average of three PhD students and around ten diploma students, interns and student assistants, the institute also contributes to the training of highly qualified specialists.

As part of national, European and international research and development projects, AEE INTEC has made a significant contribution to the further development of sustainable technologies in recent years. Clients of these projects are federal states, federal ministries, the European Commission, international organisations such as UNIDO as well as industrial and commercial enterprises.

Role in project

AEE INTEC is involved in a variety of work packages. The ‘Industrial Systems’ department, together with the measurement department, is conducting the energy audit including measurement campaigns – currently (April 2024) – these are being prepared. Later, integration concepts and planning guidelines will be developed for hybrid PV-ST systems and dedicated technical trainings for key stakeholders performed.

The research group ‘Renewable Technologies’ will conduct the monitoring, with the open-source software SunPeek, co-developed by AEE INTEC, being further developed within INDHEAP.

The Energy Department of EEWRC has made significant inroads in becoming the reference energy research organization in Cyprus and the wider EMME region, and it is recognized as a center of European significance. The department forges strategic partnerships at the local, regional, and international levels, and studies the scientific, economic, and societal impacts stemming from the green transition of Cyprus and the wider region. It is pursuing research in three groups with distinct identities but with strong interlinkages:

  • The Advanced Renewable Energy Systems (ARES) Group that works on Renewable Energy Technologies, develops and maintains large strategic research infrastructures.
  • The Energy Planning and Analysis (EPA) Group that studies and consults national and regional stakeholders on energy planning, associated technoeconomic studies and energy and climate policy.

PIROBLOC was founded in 1977 with the aim to develop the technology related to thermal fluid heating systems, being present with around 1700 installations in all the industry sectors worldwide. We work according to ISO 9001/2015 and to ASME under the “U” Stamp rules.

We have one manufacturing plant close to Barcelona (Spain) where the whole production process is controlled, right from obtaining the material through to the end check before departure, meeting the requirements of each customer.  Our product range includes the following products:

  • Thermal fluid heaters able to burn conventional fuels,

  • Electric steam boilers,
  • Heat exchangers, and
